Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Tea strainer (if using loose tea)
  • Spoon
  • Cup or mug

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon black tea leaves or 1 tea bag
  • 1 hard-boiled egg
  • 1 –2 teaspoons sugar or honey
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • Whole spices: 1 star anise and a small piece of cinnamon
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

Brew The Tea

  • Start by heating water in a small pot until it gently starts to boil. Drop in black tea leaves or a tea bag. If you like extra aroma, add a piece of star anise and a small stick of cinnamon. Let everything simmer together for about 3–5 minutes so the tea becomes strong and fragrant.

Add The Egg And Flavor

  • Put a peeled hard boiled egg into the pot. For better taste, you can lightly crack the egg shell before adding it so the flavors soak in more. Add soy sauce, a little sugar or honey, and a small pinch of salt. Let it cook on low heat for another 5 minutes so the egg can take in all the flavors.

Serve It Up

  • Take out the tea bag or strain the liquid if needed. If you want it creamy, stir in a splash of milk. Pour the tea into a cup and serve it warm with the flavored egg on the side or dropped right into the drink.
