Fudge Earthquake Cake Recipe

Eliana Emerson
The main specialty of Fudge Earthquake Cake Recipe lies in its rich, layered texture and dramatic “cracked” appearance after baking. This dessert combines three indulgent layers in one pan: a soft chocolate cake base, a creamy cheesecake style layer, and a gooey fudge topping loaded with chocolate chips, nuts, and coconut.

Chocolate Cake Base

  • 1 box German chocolate cake mix
  • Ingredients listed on the box typically: eggs, vegetable oil, water

  • 113 g butter
  • 240 g powdered sugar

Fudge Topping

  • 170 g chocolate chips
  • 60 g chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 40 g shredded coconut

Instructions

Prepare The Cake Base

  • Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F) and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking pan. Make the German chocolate cake batter using the instructions on the box. Pour the batter into the pan and spread it out evenly.

Make The Cream Cheese Layer

  • In a bowl, combine softened cream cheese, melted butter, and powdered sugar. Mix until it turns smooth and creamy. Spoon this mixture over the cake batter in small dollops. Do not mix it in just leave it sitting on top.

Add Toppings And Bake
