Habanero BBQ Sauce Recipe is a spicy, smoky sweet condiment made with habanero peppers, ketchup, vinegar, sugar, and spices, simmered and blended into a bold sauce for grilling, dipping, or marinating meats. I made this sauce after watching a cooking show where a pitmaster prepared a similar spicy barbecue glaze that caught my attention.
3–4 fresh habanero peppersstems removed (use fewer for less heat)
1cupketchup
1/3cupapple cider vinegar
1/4cupbrown sugar or honey
1tablespoonmolasses
1tablespoonWorcestershire sauce
1teaspoonsmoked paprika
1/2teaspoongarlic powder
1/2teaspoononion powder
1tablespoonred pepper flakes
1tablespooncayenne pepper
2teaspoonsdry mustard powder
1tablespoonolive oil or butter
Salt and black pepperto taste
Instructions
Make The Base
Throw the habanero peppers, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar (or honey), and molasses into a blender. Blend it until the mixture is completely smooth.
Cook It Up
Heat a little olive oil or butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Pour in the blended mix, then add Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, cayenne, and dry mustard. Stir everything together well.
Let It Simmer
Keep it on a gentle simmer for about 10–15 minutes, giving it a stir every so often, until it thickens slightly. Taste and add salt and pepper as needed. Let it cool down before you store it or serve it.
