Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup tomato ketchup
  • cup vinegar white vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon liquid smoke
  • 3 tablespoons celery seeds
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 small red chili pepper
  • 1 tablespoon margarine
  • ¼ –½ cup water

Instructions
 

Mix Everything Together

  • Put a medium saucepan on medium heat. Add ketchup, vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, liquid smoke, celery seeds, smoked paprika, black pepper, salt, and chopped red pepper. Stir it all well so everything blends nicely.

Let It Simmer

  • Add margarine and water. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer (don’t let it boil hard). Let it cook for about 10–15 minutes. Stir now and then so it doesn’t stick. You’ll notice it slowly getting thicker and the flavors coming together.

Check And Finish

  • Taste it and adjust if needed. If it feels too thick, add a little water. If something is missing, add a bit more seasoning. Turn off the heat, let it cool for a few minutes, and it’s ready to use or store in the fridge in a sealed container.
