Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Blender or immersion blender
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh or frozen raspberries
  • 2 –3 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce
  • 15 oz tomato sauce
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 –3 tbsp brown sugar or molasses
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp liquid smoke
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 –2 tbsp red pepper flakes
  • ¼ cup water
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

Step 1: Cook The Base

  • In a medium saucepan, warm some olive oil over medium heat. Toss in the chipotle peppers, red pepper flakes, and butter, and let them sizzle for about 2 minutes. Then add the raspberries, tomato sauce, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, and honey. Stir everything together and let it come to a gentle simmer.

Step 2: Season And Blend

  • Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, liquid smoke, water, and a pinch of salt. Let the mixture simmer for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the raspberries are soft and the sauce thickens a bit. Take it off the heat and let it cool slightly, then puree it until smooth with a blender or immersion blender.

Step 3: Final Simmer And Storage

  • Pour the blended sauce back into the pan and simmer for another 5 minutes so the flavors come together. Taste it and adjust the salt, sweetness, or heat if needed. Let it cool completely, then transfer to a jar or bottle for storage.
